🇵🇭 Tagalog — Day 26 Module
Learn one of the most versatile and practical tools in everyday Tagalog: 'may' (there is, there are, has, have) and its negative partner 'wala' (there isn't, none, don't have). Master describing what is available in homes, stores, and markets, as well as expressing personal possession.
- Express existence using 'May + [thing]' (e.g., 'May tubig', 'May pagkain')
- Anchor existence to places using 'May + [thing] + sa + [place]' (e.g., 'May pagkain sa kusina')
- Inquire about availability: 'May tubig ba?' and reply with 'Oo, may tubig' or 'Wala'
- Express personal possession using 'May + [thing] + ako' (e.g., 'May pera ako', 'May kotse ako')
- Ask possession questions: 'May kotse ka ba?' and answer affirmatively or negatively
- Recognize plural existence using 'mga' (e.g., 'May mga tao sa tindahan')
- Deliver a 60-second home inventory monologue describing what is present and absent
⏱️ Your 30-Minute Daily Schedule
1. ⏱️ 0–5 Min — Warm-Up & Existence Cadence
Warm up by vocalizing yesterday's core marker patterns, then introduce the crisp pronunciation of MAY and WALA:
Tap 🔊 to hear native Tagalog audio directly on your device. You can also tap 📋 Copy to copy any word to your clipboard, or tap 🌐 Listen to open native pronunciation in Google Translate.
Practice Syllables
Speak the core existence pair aloud 3 times:
May tubig ba? → Oo, may tubig. • Wala!
In Tagalog, 'May' handles both 'There is/are' (May tubig = There is water) AND 'To have' (May kotse ako = I have a car). It directly answers: Is something present or available?
2. ⏱️ 5–10 Min — Existence & Availability Vocabulary
Learn the essential words for talking about presence, absence, household items, and people:
| Tagalog | English Meaning | Context & Audio |
|---|---|---|
| may | there is / there are / has / have |
May pagkain sa kusina.
|
| wala | there isn't / none / don't have |
Wala akong pera ngayon.
|
| tao | person / human |
May tao sa loob.
|
| mga tao | people (mga marks plural) |
May mga tao sa palengke.
|
| kama | bed |
May kama sa kuwarto.
|
| din / rin | also / too |
May tubig din sa mesa.
|
| kotse | car |
May kotse sa labas.
|
| labas | outside / outdoors |
Nasa labas ang kotse.
|
| pera | money |
May pera ka ba?
|
| kape | coffee |
May kape ba sa umaga?
|
In Tagalog, forming plurals is simple: just add mga (pronounced ma-NGA) before the noun:
- tao = person → mga tao = people
- bahay = house → mga bahay = houses
- kotse = car → mga kotse = cars
